Ann Marie Leitao: The Power of Sharing Your Story & Changing The World

Written by:

Have you ever had that uncomfortable feeling when you tell a story and the only response is crickets? The probability of you telling that story again is pretty slim to none. What if that story was the fact that your mother just died from a brain tumor? Oh yeah, and you’re 10 years old. Ann Marie held that uncomfortable feeling for years after she lost her mother within 2 months of being diagnosed. There was no one around her who could relate and she definitely didn’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. So she kept it inside and rarely talked about the biggest, most tragic part of her life.

That is until college when she found EmpowerHER, a non-profit organization that empowers girls who have experienced mother-loss. She felt and knew this was the moment to share her story. She has been a part of the organization for about 12 years and has never looked back – in fact, all she does is look forward! I admire Ann Marie for putting all of her effort, love, and care into something she didn’t have as a kid, so little girls all over the world can have support through one of the toughest parts of their lives.

Ann Marie has such a passion in her belief that she can do whatever – she has so many motivational speeches in this episode, that I felt the urge to get up out of my seat at times, I was so pumped! Whether you want motivation, inspiration, or just some good advice, she brings it. Enjoy!
