The last time I sat down with Jason Catron on the Level Up! With Shay podcast, we were in the midst of COVID. I was in Los Angeles, and Jason was temporarily staying with his parents in Kentucky. Regardless of the situation or timing – we had an amazing conversation.
And listening to it again now came at the perfect time.

Jason was so real about his up-and-down emotions, the good and bad experiences, and how he pushes through all of it.
One thing that really stood out to me this time around was Jason’s ability to dream again. He’s had many wins – and challenges -throughout his career. But there was a point where he thought he was done. He thought his career as a creative was over.
During that time, he felt depressed. It was hard to get out of bed, hard to even be creative – the very thing that fuels him as an artist!
But he didn’t let that stop him. He got up, brushed himself off, and started dreaming again.
Why did that stick out to me?
Well, as you know – if you’ve been following my story – I moved back in with my parents after some challenging experiences as an artist.
I had gone from comedy, to rap, to personal development podcasting, to stand-up, to political podcasting – where, honestly, a lot of my life blew up.
After leaving a professional, creative, and personal relationship with business partners and moving back home, I thought I was done.

I now live out in the country, where it takes a solid 30 minutes to get almost anywhere. And I had lost a lot of relationships through my political podcasting project – people are emotional and sometimes even illogical with that stuff!

But more recently, as I’ve focused on rebooting Level Up! With Shay, working with small businesses on their marketing, and diving deeper into what I love to do, I’ve been able to do the same thing Jason did – dream again.
You know that feeling when you’re working on something fun, something you love, and you get those goosebumps?
I’ve been getting them a lot lately. And it might not seem like much, but for me, it feels like hope. It feels like I still have something to live for, to strive for, and to fulfill throughout my life.
A message that God is saying “This is where I need you.”
It may not look how I thought it would – but that doesn’t mean I can’t find ways to make it feel good. And that’s what I’m doing.
Continuing with this episode.
Jason says:
“If you keep leveling up, your life becomes an adventure. And that, to me, is what life is all about.”
This is quite an adventure for me – no argument there.
And no matter what, we may not have control over everything, but what we do have control over – focus on that.
Thank you for showing up today and giving your best, because the world needs it.
