I Don’t Have the Answers (And That Might Be the Point)

Written by:

Sometimes when I sit down to write a blog, I feel like I need to have THE answer for something.

“How do I stop doubting myself??”
Try affirmations!

“How do I become more confident?”
Exercising regularly helps!

“How do I make more money?”
Learn a skill someone wants to pay for!

See? I can whip up an answer for just about anything.

But if I’m being real with you…

I don’t have the answers.

Sure, I can give an answer. But the real answer?

I’m not your gal.

And I know this because, as I navigate my own life, I’ve got a million questions myself.

  • How do I stay calm and not get overwhelmed?
  • How do I hold boundaries in my work?
  • When’s the best time to drink water in the morning – before or after brushing my teeth?

(Seriously. Does anyone know this one?!)

But here’s what I’ve come to believe is even more important than knowing the answer:

Not knowing the answer… and moving forward anyway.

Let’s be honest – we understand only a tiny fraction of what this world and this life are really about. (Like… how did we even get here???)

Sure, science explains some things. But even that? Not 100%.

I’ve spent a lot of my life looking to others, asking them what I should do.

Which is funny, because I’m the type of person who hates being told what to do and can’t stand the 9-5 grind. But the second I became a freelancer?

I just wanted someone – anyone – to tell me what to do. 😂

And even when I got advice – whether it was what I wanted to hear or what I needed to hear – if it didn’t sit right with me, I’d go back to doing things the way I was before.

The truth is, I didn’t want advice. I wanted clarity. I wanted someone to hand me the “right” answer.

But after all this time, here’s what I’ve realized:
No one truly has the answers.

They might have answers based on their life experience. Or knowledge from books, mentors, or trial and error. But answers for what’s right for me?

They’re just guessing.

So what is the right answer? (Coming from someone who just told you no one has it?)

Listen to yourself.

Yes, seek guidance from coaches, friends, family, mentors — but after you’ve heard them out, check in with yourself.

How does it feel?

Does it make you uncomfortable? Maybe that’s your growth edge.
Or maybe… it’s just not the right fit.

Only you will know.

It’s like what I do with my friend when we can’t decide where to eat.

We flip a coin.

Heads = Mexican. Tails = Pizza.

If it lands on heads and I suddenly feel disappointed? Boom. I wanted pizza.

The coin didn’t give me the answer – I did.
The coin just helped me find it.

So please, don’t take my words as absolute truth.
(But if you do… welcome to my cult. I call it Shay’s Cult. Working title. I’ll get more creative later.)

Instead, I hope you take my words as guidance — something to reflect on, explore, or discuss.

Because if you came here looking for answers?

Hate to break it to you…
You came to the wrong place.

So, I’m curious – Do you usually trust your gut or look for outside advice first?

Til next time,
Shay
