Do you ever have trouble making up your mind?
What feels like hours is only mere minutes of excruciating and somewhat painful overthinking.
Thinking if I want to write about this topic or that topic. Contemplating if I want to go to the gym or do some yoga. Weighing the options on if I want to eat dinner at home or grab something from a restaurant (Chipotle IS a restaurant, ok?!!?)
I think we can all agree that those times of indecision are NOT fun. Instead of being the best thing or the worst thing – a heaven or hell – these times are a purgatory of sorts, illuminating feelings of staleness, heaviness, and frustration.
These feelings were brought to my attention the other day and the Universe, as always, stepped in. It reminded me of how, in the scheme of things, anything I create is like a speck in the midst of trillions of other specks. It was pretty comical as I thought about it more.
But just because the speck is so small, doesn’t make it unimportant.
One action that I take can inspire others to do the same or whatever that means in their life. One good decision I make can help create future good decisions. As you can see, it’s not my thinking that changes the world little by little – it’s the action.
So why do we spend so much time grueling over what to create, what to say, how to say it in the perfect way, or whatever else gives us the illusion of feeling safe by way of holding ourselves back?
We can be really good at turning what we love to do into a chore we must stop to think about.
Yes, thinking can be beneficial and it is important at times, but to me there are a lot more things that are important than thinking – my time, my joy, the feeling I get when creating something from nothing, the focus I feel when taking action on something I love!
I’d rather throw a bunch of things on a canvas with joy and see what sticks rather than carefully and meticulously think about what to create.
I know this doesn’t only apply to my life as a creator, but yours as well – creator or not.
What is something you love to do day in and day out? Or maybe something you haven’t started yet but want to?
Whether it’s your first step or your 1000th, know that messy action is better than perfect thinking.
Harry Truman said something similar:
“Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction.”
You’ll learn as you go, stumble along the way and get back up again.
Ahhh Life. The journey we all signed up for.
Taking one step at a time. Building strength. Gaining wisdom. And maybe most importantly, letting go of expectations, knowing that this life isn’t a final destination, but merely an experiment.
Just another try in the life of a trillion tries. I’d much rather spend my life trying thousands of times and failing thousands than thinking thousands and failing a few here and there.
Life is for trying, not resisting.
Life is for action, not thinking.
Life is for living, not waiting.
Let’s expand our world today by getting out of our brains and allowing the power and flow of the Universe to guide our hands towards action.
What will you act on today?
