There’s comes a point in life when you no longer have any choice to stay the same. A challenge or situation arises and you either step up to it or fall. Again. Then you try to figure out what went wrong. How can you do better? But the answers you are seeking aren’t the issue – it’s the questions you’re asking.
Let me explain…
You ask “How do I get a better body?” “How do I stay in a healthy relationship?” “How do I make a million dollars?” The answers are SIMPLE! And there are SO MANY options! How do you get a better body? Workout. Eat healthy and whole foods. Get good sleep. Drink water. How do you stay in a healthy relationship? Be a good listener. A good communicator. Keep your promises. Stay faithful. How do you make a million dollars? Create a business people want. Stay consistent. Don’t give up. We’ve all heard these answers before, right? I mean, heck, those are a lot of the answers my guests give on my podcast and I ask the questions!
But at the end of the day, I could ask the same questions to different people, get some great answers and still, a year later, be nowhere. So what is the secret? The magic pill that does the trick?
Stop asking how. And just do it.
I will use the examples again. You know you’re supposed to exercise if you want to improve your body. Are you doing that? If you’re not going to the gym currently, are you taking a few laps around your block every day? Maybe a few sets of pushups, planks, and sit ups? Do you have a water bottle you carry around consistently and are able to fill up if you’re out and about or at work?
I could continue to ask these questions, but the point is, stop asking, start DOING.
I would say one consistent question I have for people or at least for myself is “How do I get more confident?” I am confident in some areas of my life and I have some areas to improve as well. Lewis Howes, lifestyle entrepreneur and host of The School of Greatness podcast, talks a lot about how he built confidence. Eventually he got sick of being scared of women and asking for their number so he just started…wait for it…asking for their number. He made a promise to himself that any woman he found attractive, he would ask for their number. He admits at first it was terrifying. But eventually his confidence grew and now he’s great at talking with women! But the important thing is, his confidence grew because he was FEEDING IT! And he was feeding it nourishing actions. Not fear. He turned his fear into action and eventually that made his fear go away and die.
So it’s pretty simple. Stop asking how you can be a better person, a better version of you, and JUST DO IT. It’s more than likely scary and that’s probably why you haven’t done anything about it yet. Or maybe you’re sacrificing something, like sleep, and that’s uncomfortable. So my last question for you – how long will you go through life just staying the same person, never expanding, always being scared to take a leap, make a decision, and end up in the same spot in August 2021?
Don’t wait. Stop asking questions you know the answer to. Take the action.
