You wake up, look at your phone, finally and reluctantly get out of bed, shower, get ready, eat breakfast, go to work, come back home, eat dinner, watch Netflix, go to sleep and do it all again. Sound familiar? There’s nothing wrong with this day by any means, I just want to know – how many times did you think about how grateful you were for… your phone, a bed, clean water, food, a job, a home, or even a Netflix subscription? If the answer is ZERO, might want to rethink your day.
Paul Forchione, my guest on this week’s Level Up! With Shay podcast, has an exercise for his life coaching clients – when you wake up, spend a few moments to point out some things you’re grateful for, before looking at your phone and interacting with others in the world. Starting off your day with gratitude is just ONE WAY to level up your life. When his clients start naming off all the bad things going on in their lives, Paul consciously points out the good things going on in their life. Now, he doesn’t ignore their problems and tell them they’re not being POSITIVE, but seeing the good in a situation is a great start to shifting your perspective.
And if anyone knows about perspective, it’s Paul. Born with cerebral palsy, told he was not going to walk, and eventually making his high school varsity baseball team, he knows both sides of the coin. Although he still faces challenges and insecurities (who doesn’t?) his daily and life practices have strengthened his mindset to work in his favor rather than against him. That’s why he loves sharing these with other people who want to have a stronger mindset as well!
I loved talking with Paul in this episode. Our conversation hits so many critical points on what it takes to level up. We aren’t perfect, but we can put in efforts every day to make our journey the best one possible. Enjoy!
