Let’s Choose to Grow

“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.” – Abraham Maslow

The day is almost over here on the east coast, but that won’t stop me from writing my one blog post of the day. I don’t even care if it’s a paragraph, I’m still going to write a blog post!

I just googled “What’s a blog?” and got this “a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style” so I’m still on the right track. Come to think of it, four years ago when I moved to Los Angeles, I did this same thing. I stayed at an Air BnB for 40 days when I first got there and was going to write a blog post for each day updating anyone who wanted to follow along with my journey. And it’s funny because I talked to my best friend Robert today and talked to him about my experience moving to Atlanta versus Los Angeles. Moving to Atlanta I’ve been slightly anxious, but I can’t really compare it to Los Angeles because I don’t really remember. I’m sure I was scared as hell, as well as excited, to be in a brand new city. But I told Robert that I hoped I was a better, wiser person and writing this blog post proves to me that I am. I made it about 11 days and blogs into it within those first 40 days in Los Angeles and today I am on post 33, I believe. And if I make it to 100, which I plan on doing, I will have solid proof that I am a stronger, wiser person than I was 4 years ago.

That’s what we want, right? Growth? Challenge? Part of me thinks I moved to Atlanta because I wasn’t feeling challenged in Los Angeles. The work I did was challenging, but the environment was slightly stale. Of course COVID didn’t help, but sometimes you just need a little kick in the butt, something new to energize yourself again.

I want people to live life on their own path, but I must say it bothers me when people aren’t taking chances anymore. When they are fine with where they’re at. I don’t think we were meant for that. If this whole earth and experience is about growth, we don’t grow when we’re comfortable. We grow when we’re uncomfortable, pushed, challenged. Our parents would tell us that exact thing when we were kids and then for some reason they would stop doing it for themselves. Heck, I think a hobby could be an opportunity for growth! Not everyone has to have a business, start a movement, or have a social media brand, but in some way I think people need to grow.

So think, have you grown in the past year? Have you put yourself in situations that were uncomfortable but you FELT like you needed it to be a better YOU? If you’re reading this, I have a feeling you have taken those steps. You have found ways to level up. If you haven’t, let’s step back into challenge. Into following what feels good to you. The feeling of waking up excited and going to bed with a sense of accomplishment. It’s never too late to have those feelings, no matter what.

Let’s grow!
