Is anybody reading this?

No for real though, is anybody reading these blogs? What makes this blog stand out any differently than another personal development blog? What kind of content is new and refreshing? Something people will be inspired to read after a long day at work? Or excited to read while having their morning coffee? Pretty content doesn’t do anything. I gotta get down to the nitty gritty, right? Bring in a story that people will want to follow along with. But there’s a fine line there. Don’t wanna go too vulnerable and show all of my flaws, and don’t wanna be “I know it all, it’s gonna be A-OK!” because, well, that’s just bullish*t. Sometimes people don’t care that you started from the bottom until you make it to the top. No, scratch that, nobody cares that you started from the bottom until you made it to the top. You know why? Those people have been let down so many times. By others around them saying they will do big things and those others quit. By themselves telling them they are going to do big things and then they quit. You know why we don’t have faith in others? Because we don’t have faith in ourselves. If, in the back of your mind, you believe you can’t reach your highest goals, what makes you think you’re going to support others who are starting in your same position to get to the top? And most people are starting in the same position.

Now I’m sure I’m not supporting others like I want to be supported. There’s just not enough time in the day. Everybody’s got a podcast, or a blog, or some business and art project they are working on and I’m all for it. I mean, this is only my 30th blog in a row. I know people who wrote a blog everyday for 3 years before they started getting a following and making money. I’m just 900 blog posts short of that. And by “know” I mean I heard them say that on a podcast I listen to. And truly, I’m doing this for 100 days to prove to myself that I can stick to something, even if that means journal entry-type posts. This is what I’m really feeling. And if you’re reading this, I hope you feel it.

I don’t mean to complain about people not supporting this blog, that’s not it at all. I’m basically just keeping this here as a record that I am going to do big things. And sometimes people don’t see the beginning stages, the little seeds that are planted to create the big success, but I want there to be cold-hard evidence. And, yes, I want Level Up! With Shay to help people and be a resource for growing and learning, but at the end of the day, if no one is listening, who am I really doing it for? I gotta do it for me.

This doesn’t mean I shouldn’t promote this blog or learn how to write better or do SEO better, etc. In fact, I’m very excited to grow around the blog and the podcast. I know they are at their little stages right now, but I know down the road, I will have invaluable skills. Skills that people can only get by starting their own podcast, writing their own blog, creating their own content. While I may not be building WEALTH right now, I am building equity. I am investing in myself, growing the value of my stocks for the future. Sometimes it’s not the right time to sell your stocks. Gotta build that value and trust first and that’s ok.

I am grateful for quarantine because it has given me the time to really focus on the importance of investing in myself, my skills, my work, my value, and my knowledge in what I can bring to the world. While I don’t want to debate about how people should be spending their time during a pandemic, I do think people should be investing in themselves. It can be pretty obvious which entities really care about us as individual human beings and not just another cog in the machine. So invest in yourself, no matter if you still have to go to work and come back and spend time working on building your equity. Do whatever it takes to make yourself valuable to someone else. That is what this world is all about, right? Connecting with people, bringing value, giving. Give, give, give to yourself and eventually you will have the assets to give to others.

These are my thoughts. Do you like them? Do you agree/disagree? Are you reading this? Comment below to let me know! 🙂
