Jonah Aimz: Surviving Yourself and Finding Silence

Written by:

Growing up as a teenager isn’t easy to begin with. Now imagine growing up as a South Asian in a small Illinois town. And add in the fact that 9/11 was during that time as well. People look at you different, treat you different, and maybe most importantly, you treat yourself different. This is a recipe for disaster. Or at least one lost kid.

This is what happened to Jonah Aimz. Not only was Jonah different than most of the people in his town because of his skin color and his ancestry, but he was also an artist, not the academic type his parents looked for in a child. Hating his life through high school and college, he decided to make the drive out to Los Angeles to pursue his love of acting. He had the help of a couple mentors out in LA, but it was not an easy journey at all. His perseverance, ability to overcome his doubt, and focus on what he wanted has helped him become a full-time actor today.

I hope Jonah’s episode gives you the hope that YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT! Listen to yourself and explore the world to find what you are seeking, no matter what family, friends, or strangers say. You are in control!
