Libbie Higgins: Don’t Wait Any Longer to Get Started

Written by:

When is the perfect time to start something? Maybe a dream you have of being a comedian, a writer, an actor, a veterinarian, a business owner? When do you start studying? Practicing? Putting yourself out there on stage? Does anyone have the answer to this? Libbie Higgins does. The perfect time to start…is now.

At 40 years old, Libbie decided she had had enough procrastinating and waiting to start her comedy career. So she took the first step – going to comedy clubs and watching other comics. By herself. For a year. Some may think the first step is to get on stage and tell a couple jokes and if they flop, well at least you tried. Don’t get me wrong, that time may come…actually it probably will come, but maybe that’s not your first step. You don’t have to take a deep dive into something – maybe it’s just a dip of the toe at first.

After a year of watching comics, Libbie decided to try it out herself. Then she started doing improv and eventually filming her character work, which had been started way before anything else. Libbie talks about the process of going from zero to 100 in comedy and in her self improvement work. Even if you are the type of person who can go out there on stage the first night, or it takes you a year to build up the courage, there’s something you’re scared to do. Something you’ve been putting off because of fear. Well Libbie says “F*ck the fear! Feel it and do it anyway”. And I agree!
